Evolution Through Sexual Reproduction

This pen visualises evolution through sexual reproduction in a uniform environment.

Rules

  1. Organism life length is determined by DNA and one can only be replaced after death
  2. To create offspring, two (near) parents are required
  3. Offspring’s DNA is the fused DNA of both parents
  4. Offspring can mutate at birth
  5. If organisms deviate too much, they become unable to reproduce

Controls

  1. size: size of the canvas
  2. offspringRate: likeliness of two parents having offspring
  3. mutationRate: the rate children mutate
  4. similarityThreshold: the threshold when two organisms deviate too much and become unable reproduce
